Alvin lee is arguably the best guitarist in the world, listening to his music, one has to agree that he’s certainly there, amongst the very best there’s ever been. Rightly christened “flying fingers”, Lee founded TEN YEAR AFTER [TYA] in 1967, securing a residency at London’s legendary Marquee Club and after playing an invitation gig at the Windsor Jazz & Blues Festival in 1968 secured the groups first recording contract.
The bands debut album was picked up by American radio stations and played across the country, prompting American concert promoter Bill Graham to invite the band over to the US for their first full US tour in 1968. This led to the bands legendary performance at Woodstock, which appeared in the documentary video of the event and was broadcast globally, giving the band sudden worldwide recognition. TYA has been playing sold out concert venues everywhere ever since.
The band enjoyed tremendous success releasing 10 albums until in 1973 they sort of decided to break up, reuniting several times over the past 35 years, most recently in 1997 to play Brazil and three Scandinavian music festivals. They remained together until 2000, when they again decided TYA wasn’t fun anymore.
Alvin Lee has performed and recorded with some of the greatest names in music for almost 40 years, releasing over 20 albums and leading TYA to international acclaim which included 28 US tours in 7 years, more than any other British band, ever!
