London’s Headland to support Siouxsie at Eiffel Tower gig

London - Coca-Cola has recently announced that London based alternative electro outfit ‘Headland’ will be one of two unsigned bands to support Siouxsie at the Eiffel Tower in Paris on 28 September as part of the Coke Music Discovery Sessions.

The Coke Music Discovery Sessions feature a line-up of talent from a variety of musical genres and take place in unusual locations throughout Europe. At the heart of the Coke Music programme is the endorsement of the best unsigned European music talent which sees each headline act personally choosing their support acts from a line-up of unsigned talent taken from the coke.com/music website. The first gig featuring Siouxsie will mark her worldwide premiere as a solo artist, and she picked Headland and Toulouse based band The Dodoz to support her on the bill.

Headland began as a duo with a strong psychedelic sound, but quickly increased to a five piece and began creating more dance-friendly beats. “We never make the same song twice,” says Headland front man Tom Ball, “which makes it hard for people to pin us down. Basically, they are all upbeat guitar tracks with a heavy synth presence and some sampling. Not a very catchy label, I know, but we’ll leave that to someone else.”

Headland’s famous fans include Alex James, who declared them his favourite new band after their performance on radio show The Tube, ex-Smiths bassist Mike Joyce, dance producer Jagz Kooner and former S-Express man Mark Moore, whose Electro-go-go night in Soho the band have headlined several times.

Having spent the past summer playing festivals and their hugely successful Choc Ice club nights at London’s Luminaire, Headland should be well rehearsed for their slot supporting the legendary Siouxsie. Of the opportunity, singer Tom Wegg-Prosser says "We are delighted to be playing on the same bill as someone who has made as much amazing music as Siouxsie has and in a venue as iconic as the Eiffel Tower. Siouxsie is a legend and we can't wait to play on the same stage as her. The fact that she picked us as support for the show is the icing on an already very tasty cake. We hope this leads to even bigger and better things for us."

Bands that want to be considered for a prestigious slot on the bill for all future gigs, including Magic Numbers in Reykjavik on 21 October, should upload their tracks onto the coke.com/music website now.

Headland is:
Tom Wegg-Prosser [guitar, vocals]
Tom Ball [guitar, vocals]
Tom Foster [bass, vocals]
Seb Sternberg [drums]
Mary Douglas [keys]

Formed in 2003 by Tom Wegg-Prosser and Tom Ball, Headland began as a duo before settling on their current lineup of 3 Toms, a Seb and a Mary. The strong psychedelic sound of their early songs – that led Word magazine to hail them one of the UK’s Top 10 indie-tronica acts – gave way to more dance-friendly beats, as evidenced on Part The Second, their latest offering released on their own imprint Touchy Feely records.
